|Ability||Opening Gambit: Deal 2 damage to a nearby enemy minion.|
Description[edit | edit source]
Opening Gambit: Deal 2 damage to a nearby enemy minion. Maw is a Neutral Common Minion. It costs two cores, has two attack and two health as well as Opening Gambit: Deal 2 damage to a nearby enemy minion. It's Opening Gambit is a powerful tempo swing in the early game, and can provide great value if used to kill an opponent's two drop. This ability can be compared to Bloodtear Alchemist's Opening Gambit, which deals one less damage, but can deal it's damage to ANY minion or General regardless of whether it's nearby or not. Without it's ability it is a very weak play and is best used only when you can utilize it's Opening Gambit.
It's important to note that this damage only affects enemy minions, not the enemy General.
Strategy[edit | edit source]
Maw, much like Dreamgazer has the stats of a one drop. Meaning that unlike other two drops like Healing Mystic if you cannot get the Opening Gambit off it may be better to not play it. It's two health also means that it trades for free into the enemy general, which means if you have to play it without the Opening Gambit you want to play it out of reach of the enemy general so that it will survive to get an attack in. This also means that it trades unfavorably with many 2/3s like Rust Crawler, however it can trade evenly with 3/2s such as Skyrock Golem and can outright kill a two health minion for free with it's Opening Gambit.
